Created by Professor Pavel Piskarev in 2014, NeuroGraphica® is an original method that combines structured drawing, visual thinking, and reflective practice to support positive shifts in thinking and perception. It approaches drawing not simply as artistic expression, but as a form of graphic modelling—a conscious creative process for exploring thoughts, emotions, challenges, and intentions. In doing so, it cultivates self-awareness, expands perspective, stimulates imagination, supports psychological well-being, and encourages creative engagement with life's experiences.
Officially, NeuroGraphica® is defined as a method that approaches art as a conscious act of creation. It is intended to facilitate positive changes in thinking through graphic activity and visual modelling, and serves as a practical tool for working with thinking and attention, reflecting on life challenges, supporting personal change through drawing, and developing aesthetic perception and reflective awareness.
The method was developed within the scientific school of the Institute of Psychology of Creativity and integrates concepts from psychology, visual thinking, aesthetics, philosophy, and creative practice. It is based on a structured drawing process that invites participants to externalize inner experiences, explore new perspectives, and consciously shape meaningful change.
One of the theoretical foundations of NeuroGraphica® is the concept of neuroplasticity—the brain's capacity to reorganize and form new neural connections through experience and learning. The method also draws on insights from neuroaesthetics, the interdisciplinary study of how the brain responds to visual beauty and artistic experience, proposing that aesthetically harmonious images can foster a greater sense of safety, coherence, and openness during reflective work.
Because NeuroGraphica® relies on abstract visual language rather than verbal expression, it can be used across cultures and languages, making it a versatile approach for coaching, education, personal development, and creative exploration.
NeuroGraphica® forms part of the scientific school of the Psychology of Creativity and the Theory of Metamodernism, and continues to be developed within the Institute of Psychology of Creativity, founded by Professor Pavel Piskarev, Doctor of Science (Psychology).
